Making your own non-toxic diy baby wipes is a simple way to keep toxic chemicals and preservatives off your baby’s delicate skin. This is also a much cheaper route if you are on a budget! Each of these wipes comes out to about 6 cents each! This is so much cheaper than store bought wipes!
Today I am sharing a non-toxic recipe in collaboration with my friend Ally from the blog, Tjoelker Family Farm! She is sharing her favorite essential oil roller bottles so be sure to check our her blog post and YouTube video!
She also shares some delicious healthy recipes and natural living tips, so check those out as well when you visit her page!
When I found out I was expecting my first child, my mindset on all of the products we used in our home changed drastically! I began by eliminating all of our toxic cleaning products. Next, I moved on to body and hair products. Finally, I began cleaning up our already “healthy” diets and we began consuming much less processed, pre-packaged foods!
Since then, my husband and I have continued to minimize the toxic overload in our home and are committed to giving our children the cleanest environment possible in which they can grow up!
If you missed my announcement last week on my YouTube channel, be sure to go check that out here!
Since I am expecting baby #2, I am planning to share with you several of our natural baby products we use regularly in our home! We used these DIY baby wipes with my first son and plan to continue using them with our second baby as well!
Natural motherhood, saving money, and living a simple, non-toxic lifestyle are a few of my passions! Naturally, making my own DIY baby wipes fits right into that lifestyle!
Why make Non-Toxic Diy Baby Wipes?
Though there are some safe, non-toxic baby wipes, there are even more baby wipes that are NOT safe to use on your delicate baby’s new skin. This website lists some common toxic chemicals to avoid in baby wipes and even offers a few safer suggestions. Some of these include parabens, phthalates, formaldehyde, triclosan, phenoxyethanol, Ethylene Oxide and 1,4-Dioxane, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) and Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES), Methylisothiazolinone (MIT), Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate (IPBC), and Bronopol and DMDM Hydantoin.
Most of these ingredients, that I cannot even pronounce, are VERY common chemicals in baby wipes and even many of our health and beauty products! Upon digging deeper into the harmful effects of these chemicals, I was convinced that making my own non-toxic wipes are a much safer option for my baby.
Check out the EWG website to learn what products may or may not be rated safe!
I have found that even some wipes rated “safe” still contain preserving agents (necessary to prevent mold) that I would not want touching my baby’s skin. This is just a personal choice we have made in our home!
Safer options for Store-Bought Baby Wipes
If you are not into DIY, no judgement! There are several brands of baby wipes that I would rate safe and use on my babies. I actually did use store-bought baby wipes for the first few months of my son’s life. The convenience was great, however, I did not enjoy always purchasing wipes or keeping them on my Amazon auto-ship list. Also, it’s never fun to run out of wipes in the middle of a dirty diaper change!
We usually do keep a few packs of Jackson Reece Unscented Baby Wipes or Made Of Wipes on hand for when we are traveling or I get super busy being a Mama and have no time to make these DIY ones! But for the most part, we use the DIY wipes all the time and they only take about 5-10 minutes to make!
Branch Basics All-PUrpose solution
You can definitely even go more “DIY” with these wipes and make your own solution, but to keep things simpler, I use my favorite all-purpose non-toxic cleaner from Branch Basic! I clean EVERYTHING with this solution. It is so versatile, the bottles are reusable (and they just came out with glass bottles), and the cleaning power is amazing!

Branch Basics is the cleaning solution we originally switched to when I found out I was pregnant and, since then, we have continued to use it in our home! It is plant and mineral based, so it is safe to use on the skin! We use this solution to make a hand-cleaner also!
Making DIY Baby Wipes without Branch basics
If you would prefer to make these baby wipes without purchasing the Branch Basics solution, I’d recommend following this tutorial from Laura at, Our Oily House! She is also a non-toxic mama and has shared her recipe to make her own baby wipes!
How to make Non-Toxic Diy Baby WIpes
- Cut wipes into halves or fourths.
- Layer dry wipes into the wipe dispenser about 3 wipes at a time.
- Spray with Branch Basics All-Purpose solution. Add essential oils if desired. I like lavender.
- Store in wipe dispenser and use within 2 weeks.
Since there are no chemical preservatives added to these wipes, they will stay fresh for about 12-14 days! But with a baby still in diapers in your house, these wipes will not have the time to go bad before you use them up!
For “on-the-go” wipes, I just grab a handful out of our larger wipe dispenser and add them to our travel dispenser. You could also store wipes for your diaper bag in a mini stasher bag.
