Shorten your bathroom cleaning routine with these homemade toilet cleaning bombs to “fizz” away that dirty toilet. They are made with all natural ingredients and are safe to use around your entire family.
I was assigned to clean all of the toilets in my parent’s home growing up. I dreaded it. I’d rather clean any other surface in the house besides the bathroom toilets. This is still my most dreaded household chore to this day…well folding laundry may run a close second! When we moved into our current home last year, the toilets were extremely grungy and were in need of a very deep clean.
I made these toilet bombs, tossed a couple in, and that dreaded toilet bowl ring was almost non-existent.
Now that they are cleaned up pretty nicely, I rarely ever scrub them anymore! Just toss in a bomb, let it fizz, and walk away! I will give it a good scrub every once in while, but these toilet bombs do all the work in between!
WHY MAKE HOMEMADE TOILET CLEANING BOMBS
Traditional toilet cleaners are laden with toxic chemicals that are extremely harmful to inhale when they are being used. But did you know that you are not safe when they are put away either since they releases gases and chemical odors as they sit inside your cabinets? Chronic exposure to these types of chemicals can lead to serious side effects. Reducing the toxins in your home will greatly improve your overall health even more than you expect. My family has definitely seen a difference since we removed traditional cleaners almost two years ago!
SOME INFORMATION ABOUT THE INGREDIENTS
CITRIC ACID
Citric acid is found naturally in citrus fruits like lemons and limes. This ingredient is used as a disinfectant and germ fighting ingredient in this homemade toilet bomb recipe.
BAKING SODA
Baking soda is a staple cleaning product in our home. We use this go-to ingredient to clean rugs, sinks, as a stain remover. It is an odor absorber and works as a great deodorizer for your toilets in this recipe.
Baking soda is also used by plumbers to unclog a drain.. ask me how I know this! 😂Therefore, using it in this recipe will also help to keep your pipes and drains free of clogs!
ESSENTIAL OILS
In this recipe, I used lemon and wild orange essential oils. You can personalize the scents any way you choose. I prefer citrusy essential oils for their cleaning power and lasting smell.
DISH SOAP
I use a spray bottle of homemade dish soap. You can get my free ebook that contains the dish soap recipe here!
It is important to sparingly spray the dish soap so that the other ingredients do not become wet before mixing it all together. Citric acid and baking soda react with water, which is why you see the “fizz” when these bombs hit the water.
HOW DO YOU USE HOMEMADE TOILET CLEANING BOMBS?
You can use these toilet bombs by simply tossing them into your toilet. The citric acid and baking soda will react with the water to create a “fizz.” This will work to remove dirt, grime, and give your bathroom a fresh smell. I made mini toilet bombs, as you will see in the video, so I use 2-3 in my toilets.
If you make a larger version of these toilet bombs, one should clean your toilet just fine!.
You can use them as often as needed, but I like to use them once or twice a week, or anytime we have guests coming over.
