Learn to make homemade pear sauce in the instant pot in just a few simple steps. This is perfect to use up all those extra pears from your tree since once pint of sauce takes about 10-15 pears! This is the perfect summertime treat that you can put up and enjoy throughout the fall!
It is currently, mid July here in Mississippi. My parents have a large pear tree at their home that recently had a broken limb due to a storm near their home.. The pears won’t quite be ready until later in August, but my mom did not want all of that fruit to go to waste.
She asked me if I thought she could make a pear sauce, similar to my instant pot applesauce. I knew pears might not have quite as much moisture in them as apples, but I figured the process would be pretty similar.
I followed the same process as making my applesauce and had great results. This will definitely become a staple canning item in our home each year!
The pears we used definitely aren’t fully ripe yet, so I can only imagine how delicious this pear sauce will be in a couple of months with fully ripe pears.
Why Make Pear Sauce?
Pear sauce is a great alternative to applesauce if you happen to have a pear tree on your property and not an apple! The tastes are pretty similar and you can flavor them any way you would like.
Also, anything homemade is going to be much healthier in most cases since you can control the ingredients in the item.
Processed, store bought foods are so full of extra preservatives and additives that are so harmful to our bodies
How long does pear Sauce Last?
In the fridge, pear sauce will last about 7-10 days. That’s how we usually store applesauce and pear sauce because it gets eaten up so quickly!
Since my mom brought us so many pears from her broken limb , we did make about 4 batches and canned a few jars. These canned jars will last a few years in a pantry or root cellar.
Things you will need
Pears (any variety)
Immersion Blender or Hand Mixer
How to make Homemade pear sauce in the instant pot
- Peel and chop approximately 10-15 pears, depending on their size.
2. Once chopped, add pears to the Instant Pot along with 1 cup of water. I have found if I want to double this recipe in the Instant Pot, I don’t need any extra water.
3. Seal the Pot and make sure the steam release valve is closed. Press “Pressure Cook” and change the time to 8 minutes.
I usually just let these “naturally” release mainly because I get busy and forget about them, but you can do a steam release by turning the steam release valve to venting to release the pressure more quickly. You really can’t mess this pear sauce up!
4. Now take an immersion blender, you could use a hand mixer as well, and puree them into a sauce.
5. Pour into storage containers or jars and refrigerate.
You could also use the canning method below for longer storage:
- Spoon hot applesauce into very hot mason jars ( I boil water and pour it into the jars before adding the liquid), leaving 0.5″ space at the top.
- Top with a NEW canning lid and ring.
- Check to make sure they are sealed by pressing on the lid to see if it pops. If it makes a sound when you press it, it is not sealed. If it is tight and sealed down then you can store it in the pantry!
