Decorating a nursery has always been a dream of mine! With my first child, we lived in a one-bedroom home so he didn’t have a true nursery. I am excited to take you along on this girl nursery tour and share with you what we sourced for her room!
A am going to preface this post with the fact that decorating this nursery was mostly for my own joy! Babies, especially newborns, do not need lots of furniture, toys, baby gear, clothes, or clutter in their rooms. And let’s face it, most babies aren’t even going to spend much time in their room for the first 6 months to a year anyways!
I wanted to keep this room very simple and touches of blush pinks and neutrals colors. We have only placed the bare necessities in her room since most of her time will be spent downstairs her first months of life!
There are still a few items I would like to add to this room such as an antique vanity, a cotton weave rug, and drop cloth curtains with a unique branch curtain rod (pics to come when this happens).
Come along on this girl nursery tour and I hope it offers you a bit of inspiration if you are decorating your own nursery!
Why we don’t have a crib in our nursery
We had a crib with our first child, but we realized very quickly we were not a fan of the crib setup. We almost immediately switched to a bedside bassinet and found it much more suitable for our family.
Once he outgrew the bassinet at around 3-4 months, we tried the crib once more. This lasted about a month, with lots of lost sleep, until we discovered the idea of a floor bed. The floor bed is part of the Montessori learning approach and seemed to fit well with our family.
My husband built a floor bed to fit my son’s crib mattress and his sleeping habits improved so much! I believe the independence my son gained from having the floor bed at such an early age really helped him to enjoy sleeping more and not dread it. Our entire family was happier!
We will be using a simple bassinet for our daughter for the first months, then moving her into her own floor bed!
